Our Story
Mathieu Hillarion (right) is a Mental Health Nursing Student at Cardiff University and his reason for studying it? To help others. Working as a nurse in the mental health field is a highly challenging job – you are likely to be caring for people with a range of conditions, from autism and schizophrenia to dementia and addiction. The needs of the people you are caring for are likely to be particularly high, and extremely individualised. This presents a huge amount of challenges in the daily job and requires patience but nothing that Mathieu can't handle.Vince Mojares (left) is a Personalisation Analyst but apart from the Technology world, he is hugely interested in the Third Sector. He actively seeks out opportunities to help and volunteer and has been fortunate to become a part of various kinds of charitable and helpful organisations whose vision and aims all share the same message and concept; to HELP. He is currently volunteering for childcare, mental health and learning disability projects such as Be Friends, LOL Friday's and Philippine's Kythe Organisation and Project SMILE and hopes to transfer his knowledge and experience to this project. What inspired Mathieu and Vince to start "We Are Present Today" are their passion for helping others. They both believe that there needs to be a genuine understanding and an appreciation of the needs and wants of the people in the society. A shared desire to defy barriers. To drive this, we need people who really care about the world around them.

What's the Meaning of the Logo?

As we were designing the logo, we ensured that it's not just something that would be enticing for the public to look at. As much as it is important for the logo to portray attractiveness, there's a more significant part that we had to take into consideration and that was the meaning. This is when we then decided to apply a Design Thinking Approach for the logo. How did we achieve this? By Empathising.Empathy is about developing a deep understanding of the challenge and an important part of Mental Health. For you to be able to help, you must first of all understand. Empathy is potent in a way that it gives someone the knowledge of understanding other people’s needs just by putting themselves in the shoes of another person. Therefore, we asked ourselves, if I was someone who's suffering from mental illness, what would help calm myself? We incorporated the colour yellow as the main and primary background colour. There's something very positive about this colour that makes you feel lively and energetic the moment you lay your eyes on it. Recent research found out that people in a yellow-coloured room appeared to be more active and conscious than people in another room.We used blue as the primary text colour as this colour stands true to its appearance. Peaceful, calm and gentle, blue has tremendous power to manage stress. It's a very soothing colour that helps calm your mind, slow down your heart rate, lower your blood pressure and reduce anxiety. Blue is believed to have a cooling and astringent effect.Additionally, we used the colour white as a background shade behind the circular heart emblem because it symbolises clarity and freshness.
